Gossip protocol is a computer protocol that is based on the dissemination of information through periodic and random exchange of messages between network participants. The goal of such a protocol is to inform the network quickly and efficiently about new information. Often called the epidemic protocol, it got its name because of the unique spread of information like a virus. The topic of this thesis is the development of an application using the gossip protocol. Through this paper, the features, and applications of the gossip protocol as well as its variations are described. Also, the basics of peer-to-peer communication as well as the basic paradigms of wireless sensor networks are explained. Through practical work, the gossip protocol was implemented on a wireless network, and its behavior and features were described. Through practical implementation, the effectiveness of the implemented protocol and efficiency in performing the task of monitoring the status of network participants was demonstrated and tested. Through testing, where six computers were set up in a network and analyzed with the Wireshark tool, gossip protocol has proven to be an efficient and unique solution for transmitting information. Tests have shown it to be a reliable and robust solution resistant to sudden changes in the network. Even with its unpredictable nature, considering the random peer selection, with the testing protocol proved to be stable and equal in its data distribution.
