Virtualization enables better usage of computer infrastructures with their simultaneous usage in different systems. In addition to that, it also enables energy savings, reduced costs for the organization and smaller amount of used equipment. It is possible to virtualize network, programs, operating systems. Network virtualization is a unique point in the current virtualization enviroment that interconnect other virtualized devices, from operating systems, storage systems to servers and large data center to create a complete semblance of a virtualized computing enviroment. The topic of this final thesis is static routing through virtual router technology. First, concepts such as network virtualization and their solutions, virtual routers and how they work, different types of routing were described. Practical work was done through SDI manager graphical interface. vPOD concept, as one of the main SDI foundations and many other things such as data networks, virtual routers and static routing were described. Once everything was successfully created and configured, communication between two computer systems was successful which was not case before that. Practical work was done within SDI project in the Ericsson Nikola Tesla company. Main goal of practical work was to enable communication between two computer systems which are part of the vPOD. This goal was achieved after vPOD was created and properly configured and static routes from computer systems towards virtual router interfaces.Static routing allowed the network administrator to create routes between systems and have full management over them. There is no packet loss in communication between two computer systems which means that static routing and virtual router if working properly.
