This thesis proposes an analytical approach for the static analysis of isotropic short and relatively short thin-walled beams with small curvature that takes into account the shear strain in the middle-surface. The proposed approach has been applied to beams with I- and H-shaped cross-sections with two axes of symmetry, with different identical supports at the beam ends (clamped and simply supported) and for loads acting in the plane of curvature or outside the plane of curvature. In this approach, the influence of shear is added to the Vlasov model of a beam with small curvature, using the theory of bending and the theory of torsion with the influence of shear developed for isotropic thin-walled straight beam. The geometrical properties of a straight thin-walled beam have been used in this model in order to simplify the proposed approach and the additional simplifications of the governing equations due to shear have been introduced, also. So, the proposed analytical solutions can be considered as approximative ones. According to the obtained solutions for short and relatively short curved beams, it follows that the Vlasov solutions for displacements and the circumferential normal stress, where shear influence is neglected, must be augmented with additional terms that take this effect into account. The key aspect of the curved beams analysis is the coupling effect of internal forces and displacements that do not occur in the analysis of straight beams. A parametric analysis of the shear influence on the displacements and circumferential normal stresses was performed using the example of a curved thin-walled beam loaded with uniformly distributed loads per unit length (as forces and torsional moments). The numerical results obtained with the shell finite elements were compared with the analytical solutions of the proposed model and with the solutions of the Vlasov's small curvature beam model. It is shown that the influence of shear is larger on displacements than on circumferential normal stresses for short curved beams (regardless of whether the load acts in the plane of curvature or outside the plane of curvature). It was also shown that the influence of shear on displacements and circumferential normal stresses is larger for clamped beams than for simply supported beams.
