The electricity market is organized as a separate market where electricity is bought and sold. Electricity, from an economic point of view, is a commodity that can be traded like any other. In the same way, the market of auxiliary services began to develop. All with the goal of lower procurement costs and with the goal of complete liberalization of the power sector. In the second chapter of this paper we describe services and auxiliary services, and their significance for the electric power system. In the Republic of Croatia, HOPS d.d. plays a central role in managing the electric power system, which, in addition to system services, also procures auxiliary services. There is no single definition of the term auxiliary services, but they are defined as all those activities in the system that are necessary to support power transmission in maintaining the reliable and safe operation of the electric power system. Ultimately, auxiliary services for the customer are an integral part of the electricity supply and there is no reason to consider them separately, i.e. any power entity connected to the grid is implicitly also a customer of the system's auxiliary services. We are witnessing record market prices for gas and electricity. In the third chapter, we present the trend of electricity price growth in the last three years. The data was collected from several relevant European stock exchanges, and presented using characteristic graphs. We can see that all observed countries experienced an almost equal increase in electricity prices in the same period. It is interesting to observe how this trend is accompanied by the growth of prices for the provision of auxiliary services, which we present in the fourth chapter of this paper, and present the methodology for determining the prices of the provision of auxiliary services depending on the price of electricity on the market. An analysis of electricity price trends and auxiliary services is also presented. Such a chain of price increases represents a great burden for the country affected by the crisis, the operators of the transmission system and the citizens themselves. In the fifth chapter, the possible causes of the rising price trend are given, as well as the reasons for power instability in Europe.
