This paper presents the use of the MATLAB programming tool for processing and graphical display of data sets, with a focus on the use of table files of discrete data as the data source itself. At the beginning of the paper, the MATLAB program package is described and the use of computers to display graphs is generally put into a historical and technological context. Then, a short introduction to the MATLAB software tool and its application was made, and all currently known functions for generating two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphs available within the MATLAB software tool were presented. The functions for drawing graphs of discrete data values are individually processed, with a special focus on the "bar" function, which is processed to the level of functionality of individual parameters as well as their use and manipulation within the MATLAB "bar" function. The paper also contains two examples of importing sets of discrete data and their graphic representation, which were imported from structured table files such as Microsoft Excel files. Importing data from a file using MATLAB graphical interfaces is shown, as well as using MATLAB commands through the application of created dedicated MATLAB scripts with corresponding code. The structure of the developed scripts that perform data import, selection and processing, as well as the drawing of graphs that enable the display of structured relationships between data, is described in detail. In the last part of the paper, the import of data from a tabular file containing groups of very large amounts of data using the developed MATLAB scripts is described. Also, a detailed description and explanation of the functionality of the scripts used, which enable the graphical display of imported data in columnar, continuous and combined columnar and continuous display format, is given. The data import planning process is also described along with examples of typical challenges that arise as part of the data import script development process.
