The subject of this paper is „Metal foams with closed cells“. Metal foams represent a relatively new kind of material whose application and processing methods have been intensively examined over the last few decades. They are used in technical applications, primarily in the transportation and aviation industry and production of various constructions. Their structure is one of the most important preconditions which determines the properties of these materials. Metal foams usually consist of firm metal with gas-filled pores. When making foam, aluminium and nickel are used the most. We distinguish metal foams with closed and open cells. They are characterized by high porosity (50% - 90%), which greatly reduces their weight, metal foams have high strength and hardness, a very important property of these materials is high absorption of impact energy. They are also great sound insulators and have low thermal conductivity. Problems with the production of these materials is insufficient investigation of producing foams with desired mechanical and physical properties. In this paper, one of the techniques of obtaining metal foams will be experimentally introduced and some of the commercially most common ways of metal foam production will be briefly explained. The procedure of obtaining metal foams with closed cells will be reviewed, as well as the necessary ingredients and chosen parameters used in this paper. More detailed steps for obtaining metal foams with closed cells will be described in the experimental part of this paper. We subsequently insufflated a certain number of precursors which we obtained by hot compression, using various insufflating agents. After examining final samples, we will analyse key parameters which influenced quality,in terms of the size and homogenity of the cells. In conclusion we will discuss the structure of obtained foams and compare final samples.
